Sing Your Heart Out and Lend a Hand at Ritz Theater
Theater, Art, Chorus, and Radio All at the Ritz in May
Play On! By Rick Abbot
7 – Shows: May 10, 11, 17 & 18 at 7:30 PM , May 12 & 19 at 3 PM, May 18 at 2 PM “Murder Most Foul may be one of the worst productions ever written… Fortunately, it's supposed to be that way. The British mystery is a play-within-a-play and the focus of Play On!—a gag-filled farce by Rick Abbot who fashions his play around the often slapstick backstage happenings of a plucky community theatre group. The end result is something akin to “Noises Off,” the iconic British farce,” says Ritz Board Theatrical Chair Doug Carey about the Ritz Theater’s latest comedic performance. Ticket discounts for military, seniors, actors, and groups available by calling the box office.
Movie Classics: The Party
Thursday, May 16 at 7:30PM
The Party is a 1968 American comedy film directed by Blake Edwards, and starring Peter Sellers and Claudine Longet. The film has a very loose structure, and essentially serves as a series of set pieces for Sellers's improvisational comedy talents. Based on a fish-out-of-water premise, the film is about a bungling actor from India, who accidentally gets invited to a lavish Hollywood dinner party and “makes terrible mistakes based upon ignorance of Western ways.” In partnership with the City of Sanford. $5 cash/credit at the door.
The Orlando Gay Chorus Spring Concert
Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30PM
Join us for an uplifting musical experience as the Orlando Gay Chorus presents its spring concert. Through song, we express our shared humanity, transcending labels and preconceptions. Whether it’s during our 9-to-5 routines or when we’re “Takin’ It to the Streets,” our message remains consistent: we are strong enough, and we know the way. Our friendships extend beyond boundaries – some of our dearest companions are straight allies. This is our truth, and together, we embrace change. Tickets: $28-$35
Ritz Online Art Auction Fundraiser Opening Reception
Friday, May 24, 5:30PM-7PM
The Ritz Theater has partnered with the Sanford Seminole Art Association to present a juried exhibition of works by the SSAA on view inside the theater. The opening reception will feature around 40 works of art, hors d’oeuvres, an artist meet-and-greet, and the opportunity to bid in the online auction or “Buy Now!. “This collaboration represents a pivotal moment—an exquisite fusion of artistic expression and community support. By featuring the remarkable talents of our local artists, we not only elevate their craft but also fortify the foundations of both the SSAA and the theater. Teri Siciliano, the esteemed Ritz Development Chair, recognizes the profound impact this partnership will have, weaving together creativity, culture, and camaraderie.” The art will be on display and auction until September 2024. Contact the theater for more information.
