THE ART OF HEALING GALLERY AT ADVENT HEALTH ALTAMONTE
CALL TO ARTISTS
Note: COVID 19 Protocols Added

Theme: “FEARLESS”
Call to Artists & submission of art: Monday, January 11 – Friday, February 5, 2021
Final Selection of art: On or about February 5
Delivery of art to the concierge by appointment only: 1pm-3pm February 8 – February 11, 2021

The Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) partners with AdventHealth Altamonte to offer an Art in Public Places program in Seminole County, exploring healing and connection through art.

A maximum of six (6) jpeg images of artworks may be submitted by Florida artists via email to SCAC. An AdventHealth Altamonte panel will then choose pieces by juried process, and the physical artworks selected by the panel will thereafter be displayed in the Art of Healing Gallery area on the first floor of AdventHealth Altamonte. THERE WILL BE NO OPEN HOUSE RECEPTION. All art will be for sale, with the artist receiving 75% of the sale and 25% to the hospital’s charitable arm. After the panel chooses art for the exhibit, SCAC will notify all artists and provide artist release forms to be submitted electronically before selected art (wired and ready to hang) may be delivered to the hospital concierge by appointment only following strict safety protocols. The protection of artists and hospital staff will be the priority. Therefore, the following requirements are NON NEGOTIABLE:

  1. Drop-off times by appointment only will be 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm only, February 8-11only.
  2. Each artist will need to email artist release paperwork to the concierge prior to scheduling an appointment for drop off. There can be no flexibility in this new process. If the concierge has not received the complete paperwork packet electronically by the last day of drop off, the artwork will not be accepted. No artwork will be accepted after the deadline or without a scheduled appointment.
  3. Once the paperwork has been successfully emailed to the concierge and the artist receives a drop off appointment, their artwork must be placed in a sealed bag, or packaged in some way with the artist’s name and the name of each piece clearly labeled on the OUTSIDE of the bag. It will not be accepted if the artwork is not sealed and labeled.
  4. Artists dropping off selected artwork will be required to go through the standard hospital screening process at the front door, to include mandatory mask, hand sanitizing and temperature screening.
  5. Artists must proceed directly to the Concierge office to drop off selected artwork, always maintaining 6 feet of safe distance. There, the artwork will be placed in the art cabinet by the concierge.

While hospital personnel are excited for artwork to hang in their facility again, there will be no flexibility in the drop off process to ensure the safety of all during this unprecedented time of the COVID Pandemic.

Questions and appointments must be directed to the AdventHealth Altamonte concierge at alt.retailconcierge@adventhealth.com.

GEORGETOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT IN SANFORD ADDED TO
THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES ON OCTOBER 8, 2020

We are proud to announce the Georgetown Historic District in Sanford was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 8, 2020. The National Register is a list of historic buildings and sites in the United States that are worthy of preservation.

The Georgetown Historic District is a historically African American neighborhood comprised of residences, commercial buildings, churches, funeral homes, and a school. Early settlement of the area began in the 1880s along Sanford, Pine and Cypress Avenues. The built environment of Georgetown is an intact representation of an African American neighborhood founded during the Jim Crow era; however, a number of individual buildings have been lost over time, and new infill development has occurred, the remaining buildings convey the historic identity and continued development over the course of the 20thcentury.

The District is roughly bounded by East 2ndStreet and East 6th Street to the north, South Chapman, Locust, Bay and Mellonville Avenues on the east, Celery Avenue to the south and Sanford Avenue to the west. Several Georgetown residences and commercial district buildings were previously included in the Sanford Residential National Register District because of their architectural character; however, they are more closely associated with the history of Georgetown. St. James AME Church and the Hopper Academy are two properties in the District that are also individually listed on the National Register.

The successful designation was the result of a more than ten-year effort of neighborhood leaders, the Sanford Museum, Historic Preservation staff, and the State of Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation. The project began with a photographic survey and historical research in 2005 and concluded with this formal recognition of the historic significance of these properties.

“I highly appreciate the cooperation, support and technical assistance provided on this matter to bring the community of Georgetown to a national level of recognition at this time. I look forward to the collaboration with interested stakeholders, volunteers, residents, family/friends and new neighbors. My passion is deeply embedded in making sure that the legacy of Georgetown be preserved appropriately and be sustained to keep the richness of our historical culture for everybody to experience. I am a proud Georgetownian ready to do the work. Congratulations to the City of Sanford Florida for facilitating the process of adding value to an already highly valued community,” said Claudia Brown, a lifelong Historic Georgetown resident.

“The City of Sanford is proud of its history and we continue to seek opportunities to recognize and protect our historic neighborhoods,” said Mayor Art Woodruff.

SCAC wins LYNX Ad Space!
The Seminole Cultural Arts Council (SCAC) has been selected as one of the 8 organizations that will be featured on the 2019-2020 LYNX Public Service Bus.

Winning organizations had their logos placed collectively on the LYNX Public Service Bus for the next 12 months. The bus will travel regular routes throughout the LYNX system, giving all 8 organizations free exposure in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. As one of the selected organizations, SCAC may also request that the bus appear at one special event for them during the year at no charge.

The bus was unveiled April 10 at 11 AM at Cranes Roost Park's Eddie Rose Amphitheater in Altamonte Springs. The ceremony included Seminole County Commissioner and LYNX Chair, Lee Constantine, as well as LYNX Interim CEO, James E. "Jim" Harrison, along with staff, supporters and/or board members from each of the 8 non-profits chosen for this year.
